Will Cranio-Sacral Therapy help me?
Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapy which works with the whole body. There is a rhythm in each and every one of us known as the “Breath of Life” discovered in the early 1900s by an osteopath named Dr William Sutherland. He discovered this rhythm is found throughout the central nervous system and is a critical element of vibrant health, not only physically but also, mentally, and emotionally. He discovered that restriction of the flow of this rhythm reduces the body’s natural capacity to self-heal. Many things can lead to tension and restrictions in the system including such things as birth trauma, accidents, surgeries, ill health, stress.
What happens during a CST treatment?
During a CST treatment the practitioner makes gentle contact with various parts of the body, enabling the client’s system to release any stored tension or restrictions. The system responds to the practitioner’s therapeutic touch and informed awareness of the anatomy. The body is always striving to bring itself back to optimal health, and by releasing any blockages or tightness in the system, the vibrant energy is allowed to flow freely again, enhancing health and wellbeing.
The session starts with you lying down on a couch fully clothed (or sitting comfortably if lying down is not appropriate), with blankets and pillows used for support and added comfort. The practitioner will take up light contact at various areas of the body including contacts which may include the sacrum, cranium, emotional centres (heart, solar plexus etc.), or anywhere that is in need of attention.
During the treatment you might notice feelings of warmth, sensations of tingling, pulsing, a rumbling in the digestive system, you might see colours, or be aware of any number of different sensations. Very often patients will drift off to sleep as the treatment is so relaxing.
Due to the gentle, non-invasive nature of CST, it is suitable for all ages, from a newborn baby to those who are much further along the path of life.
